Lifestyle Habits for Healthier Living

Move Naturally
This isn’t just about getting into the gym and working out or training for a marathon, it is about moving naturally throughout your day. It’s finding ways to add movement to our inactive lifestyles.

Examples:

  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator
  • Park farther away from the entrance
  • Do your own yard work

Eat Wisely
Eat earlier in the day and increase the numbers of fresh fruits and vegetables that we consume.  Eat and drink items that are good for us and low in fat and sodium. Do not eat until you are full, but eat slowly to enjoy your food and stop when you are about 80% full. Try to consume 8 glasses of water a day.

Examples:

  • Track body weight
  • Take hip and waist measurements
  • Enjoy wine at 5

Right Outlook
What is your purpose in life? What are your values, passions, gifts and talents? Do you use them on a daily basis? If not, find ways to put these into action. Not only should we find our purpose, but we also need to downshift and plan ways to relax and recover form our hectic lives. Taking a timeout for yourself to relax every day is extremely important.

Examples:

  • Reduce stress
  • Continue education
  • Be tobacco-free
  • Get a massage

Connect
Belong to your community! It doesn’t matter if it is faith or civic based. Get into a social group and actively work with and help others in the community. Spend time with people who add quality, not stress, to your life. Enjoy your family.

Examples:

  • Join a book or running club
  • Be actively involved with your church
  • Volunteer for a service organization
