Flood Update - 6/26/24

posted in Public Works on June 26, 2024

Update as of Wednesday, June 26, 2024 10 AM:

More good news!  A few key points to take away at this time:

  • The Cedar River in Waverly registered at 10.9’ at 9:15 AM this morning.  Water is receding at a faster pace than originally predicted.
  • Janesville crested last night at 14.3’.
  • 4th Street SE and 7th Avenue SE have opened to traffic.
  • 8th Street SE remains closed at this time. Updates will be posted as we know more.

There could still be sewer backups in basements associated with this flooding.  Please keep sandbags on floor drains in basements to help prevent this.

The City has designated sandbag drop-off stations.  Sandbag drop-off stations are at the following locations:

  • City of Waverly Parks Division, 412 1st Avenue SE (behind the east Kwik Star)
  • Southeast Elementary School, 809 4th Street SE

Welcome to Waverly. Great schools. Diverse housing options. Robust job market. Top-flight indoor rec center. Outdoor recreation adventures of all kinds. Prestigious Wartburg College. And a safe and welcoming community of people who value the good life in a beautiful place.
