posted in Public Works on June 25, 2024

Update as of Tuesday, June 25, 2024 2:45 PM:

Good news! The Cedar River in Waverly has crested. A few key points to take away at this time:

  • Waverly crested today at 11.96’ at around 10:30 AM.  Water is receding slowly, with a reading of 11.88’ at 1:15 PM.
  • Janesville is forecasted to crest at 14.6’.  It’s predicted to remain at crest level from 7:00 PM Tuesday, June 25th through 1:00 AM Wednesday, June 26th.
  • 4th St SE, Crestwood, and 8th St SE are closed at this time. We plan to reopen these streets once water has receded to the middle line of the street.  Updates will be posted as we know more.

There could still be sewer backups in basements associated with this flooding.  Please keep sandbags on floor drains in basements to help prevent this.

Beginning tomorrow (Wednesday, June 26) we will have designated sandbag drop-off stations.  Sandbag drop-off stations will be set up at the following locations:

  • City of Waverly Parks Division, 412 1st Avenue SE (behind the east Kwik Star)
  • Southeast Elementary School, 809 4th Street SE

Welcome to Waverly. Great schools. Diverse housing options. Robust job market. Top-flight indoor rec center. Outdoor recreation adventures of all kinds. Prestigious Wartburg College. And a safe and welcoming community of people who value the good life in a beautiful place.
