Successful Job Fair & Skilled Trades Expo Connects Students with Career Opportunities
Waverly, IA – On March 25, students in grades 7-12 from Waverly-Shell Rock and surrounding schools gathered for the Job Fair & Skilled Trades Expo, an event designed to introduce young people to career opportunities in skilled trades and beyond. With a strong turnout from both students and businesses, the event proved to be a valuable experience for all involved.
Local and regional businesses representing a variety of industries, including construction, HVAC, tooling, healthcare, and technology, participated in the event. Representatives provided hands-on demonstrations, answered questions, and offered insights into potential career pathways. Students had the opportunity to engage directly with industry professionals and learn about high-demand careers that provide rewarding futures.
“The enthusiasm from both students and businesses was incredible,” said Chelsea Petersen, Executive Director at Waverly Chamber of Commerce & Main Street. “This event is a testament to the bright future ahead for our community and the commitment of local employers to investing in the next generation of skilled workers.”
As part of this year’s event, three $500 scholarships will be awarded to Waverly-Shell Rock seniors who attended the expo. These scholarships aim to support students pursuing further education or training in skilled trades or career pathways explored during the event.
The Job Fair & Skilled Trades Expo serves as an important bridge between education and workforce development, helping students understand the many career options available after high school, whether through technical training, apprenticeships, or direct employment.
Waverly Chamber of Commerce & Main Street extends its gratitude to the businesses, educators, and community members who contributed to the success of this event. Their support and engagement play a crucial role in fostering career readiness and economic growth in Waverly and the surrounding areas.
