Flooding Predicted for Southeast Waverly and other low lying locations near the Cedar River.

The National Weather Service is predicting significant flooding in the Cedar River watershed from Charles City through Janesville. This prediction is based off current rain and projected rainfall through Saturday, June 22nd.  Based on the National Weather Service’s river level predictions for Charles City and Janesville, city officials for Waverly are predicting that the Cedar River in Waverly will continue to rise through this weekend.

Waverly’s inflatable dam prevents flooding from occurring in northwest and southwest Waverly. However, southeast Waverly may experience significant flooding and residents should be prepared to evacuate if water levels force the closure of 7th Avenue SE and 4th Street SE.

Sandbagging stations have been set up at the following locations (others will be added if needed):

City of Waverly Parks Division, 412 1st Avenue SE (behind the east Kwik Star)
Waverly Public Services, 2900 5th Ave NW.

Place your unanchored belongings out of high risk areas until river levels recede.  Be flood aware and continue to monitor the news outlets.
