Disposal of Bulky Items

Disposal of Large / Bulky Items

Waverly residents have four options to dispose of large/bulky items.  Landfill fees apply to each of the options.  Note that appliances, televisions, computers, monitors, printers, furniture, carpeting, and tires are not picked up by the garbage truck.  They may be disposed of using one of the following options.

(1) Drop off at Yard Waste Site:

2800 5th Avenue NW
Located north of Recycling Center.  Open during spring, summer & fall seasons.

OR   Public Services:
2900 5th Avenue NW
Bulky item collection site during the winter season as conditions permit.  Email Public Services or call 319-352-6247 to schedule drop-off.

(2) Special Pickup Service for Large/Bulky Items

The City can provide a Special Pickup Service for large/bulky items at a charge of $25 per load at any time during the year.  (See Yard Waste section for Special Pickup of yard waste.)  Landfill fees for the large/bulky items will be an additional charge.  The item(s) scheduled for a Special Pickup will need to be placed at your curb.  Listed below is an example of charges for a Special Pickup.  Complete the Special Pickup Request or call 319-352-6247 to schedule a Special Pickup.

Example:

Refrigerator                       $15.00
Television                           $15.00
Special Pickup Charge      $25.00
Total Charge                      $55.00

(3) Special Collection Week

One week is scheduled in the spring of each year for the removal of large/bulky items placed at the curb of Waverly residents.  During this week the $25 Special Pickup fee is waived, but each resident does need to pay the landfill charges.  Payment arrangements need to be made prior to this Special Collection Week by Emailing Public Services or calling 319-352-6247.  Yard Waste is also picked up during this week and the following week.

The Special Collection Week for 2025 is tentatively scheduled for the week of April 21 - April 25 (large/bulky items and yard waste & brush).  The following week of April 28 - May 2 is scheduled for just yard waste and brush.

Reminder: Biodegradable bags are required for yard waste collection.

If you choose to take your garbage, bulky items or construction material directly to the Bremer County Landfill at 2049  200th Street, contact them at 319-352-4574 or visit their website.
