Flood Plain Development
The State of Iowa sets forth code provisions which delegate the responsibility to cities to enact zoning regulations to secure safety from flood and to promote health and the general welfare.
The Community Development Office enforces standards for developments located within the high risk flood hazard areas identified on FEMA's Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs).
Waverly requires all new or substantially improved structures to have the lowest floor, including basements, elevated a minimum of one (1) foot above the one hundred (100) year flood level (Shown as areas "A" or "AE" on the FIRMs).
For more information, view the Zoning section of the Waverly City Code and go to Section 102.
